Nature benefits us, Abrenios in many unexpected ways. Whether you're a kid playing "lit-littuok" or "bain-bain," a teenager finding a spot to swim or watch the sunset, a bird-watcher or a hunter, a biker or a hiker, a photographer or a traveler, a cancer patient, a furniture maker, a biologist or a naturalist, a farmer or a fisherman.
Wildlands purify water and air, control floods and keep diseases in check. Nature nurtures and heals us. We don't even need to travel to all corners of the Earth to find places of beauty.
Today, on Earth Day 2008, we celebrate Abra's beauty. And here's a video on why we must preserve it. earthday2008.wmv (18.1 MB)

Samuel Dupan Dapapa, though he was born in Kalinga, is a proud Abrenian. He is a retired teacher who has already received two national awards, the Presidential Award and the Datu Sibug Award, both in recognition for his outstanding service rendered to the indigenous people.
In this first series of Conversations, Samuel or Sami as he is fondly called, talks about one of his soon-to-be-published books and reminds us the importance of knowing and learning from our past. conversationswithsamueldapapa.wmv (19.8 MB)

| | Miraculous Invocation to Saint Therese
O glorious St. Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and counsel mankind, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a "Prodigy of Miracles...the Greatest Saint of Modern Times." Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition and to carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good upon earth...of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will fulfill your plea "to be made known everywhere" and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you.
Amen.
The relics of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus visited our town, Bangued last February 5th. The carrier arrived at Saint James the Elder Cathedral at around noontime with hundreds of parishioners anxiously waiting.
Interestingly, Saint Therese is the patron saint of Peñarrubia. |

I love Abra simply because it is home. It's a wonderful province, just marred by dirty politics. Nonetheless, Abra is beautiful and I <3 it no matter what. iloveabra.wmv (14.5 MB)
If one wants to get away from the hustle and bustle and everyday stresses of the ever-growing Bangued, one must visit Tayum.
Tayum, named after the indigo plant which was locally abundant in early colonial times, is located east of the capital town Bangued. It was founded in 1725 and was annexed as a barrio of Bangued in 1903 until 1907.
Nothing much has changed in this small town in spite of its proximity to Bangued. However, if there's one thing Bangued should learn from Tayum, it is the fact that Tayumeños know how to preserve their heritage specifically their built heritage.
This video opens up with glimpses of a miniature replica of the town, a skating rink (which became a fad in early 1990s) and the monument of General Antonio Luna then culminates with a dramatic view of the largest church in Abra, Santa Catalina de Alejandria Church. Truly in Tayum, time does stand still. tayum.wmv (7.5 MB)
